BAMBOO UNDERWEAR? SERIOUSLY?

Prior to manufacturing our new underwear range over twelve months ago, I naturally made the point of telling friends and family of our intent to utilise bamboo fibres rather than cotton. The reaction most commonly was "seriously?" or "huh?". While I myself had read of the fabric being used widely in clothing such as socks and infant wear, I was somewhat surprised that others had not. While the material has not been as popular as cotton for underwear in the past, we still felt there were enough benefits to warrant manufacturing our first range of underwear in this highly versatile natural resource.

So what are the main benefits to the consumer in choosing bamboo clothing over cotton and other materials?

  • The comfort! Have you worn any clothing made with bamboo fibres before? If not, you will soon agree that it is one of the softest, most luxurious and most comfortable fabrics available. So why not utilise that comfort in men's underwear?
  • Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants in the world. Some species can grow 120cm a day and bamboo does not require fertilisers or pesticides. This means the plant is extremely eco-friendly and is comfortably one of the greenest options for clothing material.
  • Bamboo is a magnificent fabric for those with sensitive skin. This natural fibre helps keep moisture away from the skin and will not irritate like many manmade fibres. Bamboo is naturally hypoallergenic, antibacterial and antifungal.
  • Bamboo is biodegradable which is yet another obvious advantage to its uses.

So with all these great upsides, why are so many people still surprised to hear of the fabric being used in clothing? Like anything new, it can take time to catch on. But rest assured if we look back at this period of time in 2 to 5 years, the positive reactions when discussing bamboo as a fabric will be far more widespread and educated.
